BNamericas’ Telecom Outlook 2016: Enough Momentum to Pull Through the Crisis

PRESS RELEASE – Santiago, November 4th, 2015

Despite a widespread economic slowdown, the Latin American telecom sector is expecting no slowdown in activity in 2016 as countries advance with 4G network rollout, fiber buildout projects – particularly in Colombia and Peru – and terrestrial digital television (DTT) migration programs.

According to the BNamericas Telecom Outlook, an annual publication that looks at where the sector is headed, upcoming spectrum auctions in Paraguay, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Mexico and Costa Rica will boost the 4G investment opportunity, particularly as in most cases there is ample room for increasing internet adoption and mobile is the most viable medium.

In Colombia alone the country’s connectivity programs are expected to require investment of US$11 billion during 2014-18, shared between the public and private sectors. Meanwhile, most governments continue drafting national ICT agendas, aware that the potential for digital inclusion to contribute to GDP growth is now more critical than ever.

The Outlook looks at the major telecom trends across Latin America, places them in the local context and assesses regulatory and infrastructure conditions that help, or hinder, telecoms in the region. To access the first chapter click here.
