For more than 10 years, we have made our home an animal sanctuary for a variety of animals – dozens over the years, with 30+ currently calling our sanctuary their forever home. We always want to do more, so we decided to start a rescue, but we can’t do it alone. Layover to Love Animal Rescue wants to improve the lives of abused, neglected, abandoned animals, and place them in loving permanent homes. Not just dogs and cats but all animals that need a safe and loving home. Please help us accomplish our mission so we can provide a better future for animals that need our help.

Shelters are overcrowded and unnecessary euthanasia takes place far too often. More than 2 million dogs and cats are euthanized every year. After years of loyalty to their families, senior animals are so often discarded at shelters and exchanged for a younger version. Years in a home happily living out their twilight years and then they are dropped off at a scary place where, unfortunately, they get dismissed, are labeled un-adoptable and put on a “kill” list. Farm animals are disposed of in despicable ways. We’re willing to take in and give ALL KINDS OF ANIMALS a safe and caring environment until a loving home is found.

WHO WE ARE:

Layover – a period of rest or waiting before a further stage in a journey: Our mission is to save animals in need and provide a safe and loving haven for them. Our facility is but a temporary stay in their journey to their forever home.

My name is Michelle Duncan, founder of Layover to Love Animal Rescue, pending non-profit 501(c)(3) and I currently reside on a farm in Hanover, Colorado, with 5 horses, 5 miniature horses, 1 miniature donkey, 3 piggies, 5 goats, 1 cat, 5 chickens, 1 rooster, 1 duck, 5 dogs and 1 loving husband. Our home is currently an animal sanctuary and has been for over 10 years and the majority of our animals have been rescued from neglect, abuse and other less-than-ideal situations – many of them labeled as unadoptable or discarded because of age or handicap. Out of desire and dedication, we promised to love and care for them for the rest of their lives. Although we have a full house already, we continually receive requests to help more and more animals.

We have decided to put the unused acres on our property to good use by starting the Layover to Love Animal Rescue to save all kinds of animals without limitation, same as we have done with the sanctuary. With our sanctuary, we’ve dedicated ourselves to rescuing and rehabilitating animals of any species and giving them forever homes. My goal for Layover to Love Animal Rescue is to save and find loving homes for all kinds of beautiful creatures that cross our path, but we simply cannot do it alone.

WHAT WE NEED:

With your donation, our number one goal is to build the first shelter (or more) needed to be able to begin taking in animals in need. With your donation, we will be able to supply that shelter, plus food, vet care, water, air conditioning, heat, beds, blankets, collars, leashes, bowls, feed buckets, halters, lead ropes, grooming supplies, and more. Together we can create a safe haven for all kinds of animals. Let’s do this and see what we can accomplish together. I know this will be amazing! With our Hearts and Hope, we can ALL make a difference for animals.

With your donation, we will be able to:

• Create housing and runs for multiple dogs.

• Create housing/shelter that will hold multiple cats.

• Create housing/shelter and runs for multiple (small) farm animals – pigs, goats, sheep, plus chickens, ducks, etc.

• Create housing/shelter and runs for multiple (large) farm animals – horses, donkeys, cows, alpacas, llamas, etc.

• Supply food for all animals.

• Set up appropriate fencing.

The animals that live at our current sanctuary will be with us forever – that is the promise we made to them – but our hope is that our Layover to Love residents have short stays in a safe place before they move on to even better homes with families that love them. If you think about it, haven’t we all experienced some kind of layover to love? We have all had that brief period of rest or waiting in our own lives in between loss and love or change and love or tragedy and love before we reach our next stop in the journey.
