America’s oldest ice company to launch crowdfunding campaign for patent-pending premium ice product for a clean, slow-melting and pure beverage experience

MIAMI (Oct. 21, 2015) – Long past are the days when ice was America’s second largest export, although, for the 209-year-old ice company that started it all… not so much. Originally founded by Frederic Tudor, America’s one and only “Ice King,” Tudor Ice launched a Kickstarter campaign aimed at restoring ice’s nostalgic luxury with the introduction of the Tudor Ice Block.

Designed for the discerning drinker, Tudor Ice is addressing a void in the beverage industry for a premium ice product that is clean, slow-to-melt and purified. The company is giving early backers access to its revolutionary new product.

Traditional ice cubes are small; tending to melt quickly. This waters down spirits and cocktails, diluting the beverage. What’s more, ice cubes are found to become easily contaminated with bacteria. As it passes multiple hands from the ice machine to the customer’s table or seat at the bar, it’s exposed to germs.

In a recent study commissioned by Tudor Ice, one in four restaurants tested proved to have unsafe levels of bacteria in its Ice. The Tudor Ice Block’s unique packaging solves the issue while reducing dilution with its unique size and shape. It preserve the integrity of the spirit, providing a premium beverage experience. The Tudor Ice Block complements crafted cocktails and high-end, single-pour spirits, such as single malts and aged scotches.

“In testing early prototypes with select customers, the response to the Tudor Ice Block has been phenomenal,” states Nestor Villalobos, CEO of Tudor Ice. “When we first set out to develop the concept, I hoped for strong reception but, ultimately, didn’t know how customers would react. I’m thrilled to report that customers are embracing the product with great exuberance.”

Tudor Ice’s premium ice will build on the entrepreneurial and innovative spirit that defined the legacy of the Tudor name. Appropriately regarded as the ‘Ice King,’ Frederic Tudor was the first person to ever harvest, package, and ship ice abroad for sale. He solely pioneered the commercial ice industry when it was otherwise only accessible to climate-permitting markets.

In 1806, Tudor shipped his first ice cargo from Boston to Martinique. By spearheading innovations in the packing, storing and harvesting of ice, Tudor Ice expanded distribution throughout India, Europe and the Caribbean. The ice exporting business was so successful that by the late 1800’s, ice became America’s second largest export, just behind cotton.

Frederic Tudor’s great-great-great grandson, Peter McCook and his wife, branding expert Jacqueline McCook, are shareholders and brand advisors in the revitalized company. “Tudor Ice’s new premium ice products will bring new meaning to the Tudor name. As it stands, the company is poised to disrupt the aging ice market,” states Peter McCook. “Not since my great-great-great grandfather first shipped ice to Martinique in 1806 has anyone taken such a great leap forward in ice innovation.”

The Tudor Ice Block will begin shipping to Kickstarter backers at the end of the first quarter of 2016. For more information or contribute to the campaign, visit http://tudorice.com/kickstarter.
