Keep The South African Artist
magazine in print.

The SA Artist is a visual arts magazine that is much-loved and highly
valued by its community of readers… but we need your help!

With this campaign we are making a bold move to transform the magazine into something more sustainable. The money raised by this campaign will give us a much-needed financial boost which will ensure that we meet all deadlines in 2016. Extra funding will also enable us to employ a media sales person to secure increased advertising sales revenue which will be buoyed by store sales and subscriptions.

If you decide to join our crowd of fundraisers, you will be making a fantastic stand for the South African arts community, and prove that we can each pledge a small contribution to make a big difference.

Please take a moment to read about our mission, vision and beliefs and watch our campaign video.

Our mission
To provide a visually impactful and inspiring print magazine featuring interviews and profiles on South African artists, both established and emerging.

Publish practical demonstrations, ‘how-to’ articles, features on materials and
equipment.

Provide general information which is of interest to people of all ages who are involved in the visual arts.

Who are we
An amazing team of volunteers, who have been doing the job for over four years

What we have
●  A proven track record: we have to date produced 20 quality print and digital magazines.
●  An engaged and committed readership.
●  A loyal group of regular advertisers.

The dilemma
●  Sales of the magazine are on the rise – great news! But at the same time this means an increased print bill.
●  Although we are seeing increased sales through retail chain stores, the income generated from these sales is less than
that of a subscription. It can also take up to five months for payment to reach us.
●  Subscribers are opting to buy in-store rather than renew their subscriptions, mainly because of late or non-delivery through the post office.

Our vision
The money raised by the campaign is intended to provide the magazine with a cash flow injection over the course of 2016, which will be in addition to the income from sales, subscriptions and advertising space. We will be able to expand our staff complement by employing a media sales person and a full time admin assistant.

Our Milestones

Milestone 1 –  R40 000
The Tipping Point
This will give us a head start on the production of our 2016 issues.

Milestone 2 – R100 000
This will afford us some breathing space to build up reserves and get our cash flow back on track for 2016.

Milestone 3 – R200 000
The Ultimate Goal
Guarantee the publishing of all 2016 issues on time and employ the staff we desperately need to build the business into a self-sustainable enterprise.
