THE STORY:
MOVING AND RENOVATION UPDATE:
Now, we are in the second phase of the fundraising. Phase I has been completed; we have a new headquarters in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The goal of Phase II is to raise remaining funding to cover the costs of renovation and to ensure Institute’s long- term stability. Our goal has not been reached yet.
Please support the Pilsudski Institute of America, we ask anyone who has Poland in their heart and appreciates the importance of the Institute in the USA. Any amount will help to keep our doors open as a place people care about and love to visit. History matters. Preserve the Pilsudski Institute of America.
The Institute has moved to its new location and is now officially open to the public.
Moving Institute’s 70-year-old archives that contain around 1.7 million pages of documents was a serious logistic and financial undertaking. Our new headquarters needed to be adopted to our needs and necessary renovation work had to be carried out. Still, there is a lot of work ahead of us: unpacking, settling down in a new location, arranging our collections and digitization. The bills for renovation are not yet paid in full. At this point, we still need $ 15,000 to cover the costs of electrical work, furnishing our office and most importantly setting up a new security system.
The Institute possesses over 240 oil paintings, watercolors, drawings and prints. These are works of art by outstanding Polish artists like: Jan Matejko, Juliusz Kossak, Leon Wyczolkowski, Aleksander Gierymski, Julian Falat, Jacek Malczewski and others.
Our priceless collection requires proper security. Thus, since we just moved in, there is a need to update the existing security system.
The rest of the funds that we are hoping to raise will be used to keep the Institute operating and to introduce new programs. Please stay tuned for the next update.
Thank you very much.
About the Pilsudski Institute
Jozef Pilsudski Institute of America is one of the largest and most important archives concerning the contemporary history of World War I and World War II, of Poland and of Central and Eastern Europe, as well as of Polish-American institutions that contributed to the building of modern American society. We share this distinction with the Hoover Institution of Stanford University.
We are collecting, preserving and making available to the public archives and library materials and in educating and popularizing the history of Central-Eastern Europe.
